Now keep it safe: three things
  1. Keep your photos and files unedited. The receipt only matches the originals. Put them in an album such as “My records”.
  2. Save this receipt to your camera roll.

Keep the receipt file too. The image is a handy copy; checking needs the file.

  3. Email it to yourself.Email it to myself

Your mail app opens a draft. Attach your receipt image and receipt file. Don’t attach your photos or documents. Timevolt does not send it or know whether it was sent.

How to keep notes that hold up

Write notes as soon as you can. Keep the original account rather than replacing it later; the venue decides what weight it gets.

          1. Write it down straight away, on paper or in the box on a step.
          2. Put the date, time and place at the top, and who you spoke to.
          3. Use their words where you can; separate what you saw from what you were told.
          4. Sign or initial a paper note, photograph it and add the photo.
          5. Never edit an old note. Add a new dated entry when something changes. A device save time is not independent time evidence or proof of event order.

A buyer said a phone box arrived empty, while the loan firm relied on its weight and delivery scan. Photos from the buyer and courier showed torn tape. The ombudsman canceled the loan and ordered a refund with interest and the credit entry cleared.

          DHL eCommerce UK claims policy

Claims policy requires photos of internal and external packaging, damage close-up and label; goods and packing must be available for inspection (claim closed if not); no goods may be repaired before written consent from the claims team.

          Proves / Doesn’t prove

          Proves

A completed time receipt shows that the exact selected file existed by the independently witnessed time. You can check whether a later copy has the same bytes. It does not establish creation time, authorship, identity, event order, location or the truth of the contents.

          Doesn’t prove

It does not prove who took the photos, where, that the damage happened in transit rather than before or after, or that the carrier or seller will accept the claim.

A receipt does not establish who caused damage, packaging adequacy or acceptance of a claim. Published examples also concern delivery location.

These are the bounds of a completed proof. The local tester does not establish any time. The chosen court, scheme or regulator decides what to accept.

          Questions, answered plainly.

Your file stays on your device. During normal receipt creation, your device sends a randomized code made from its fingerprint, plus encrypted recovery data. It doesn't send the plain fingerprint or the random value that opens the code. Keep the original file and the complete receipt for checking. Privacy Policy.

What does a time receipt do for my damaged parcel photos?

A completed time receipt shows that the exact selected file existed by the independently witnessed time. You can check whether a later copy has the same bytes. It does not establish creation time, authorship, identity, event order, location or the truth of the contents. Keep original source records, native entry history and separate process evidence; a time receipt does not continuously monitor the file.

Will the carrier or seller accept it?

We can't promise that. The carrier guidance we found asks for clear photos, the label, an invoice and keeping the packaging, and says nothing about timestamps. A time receipt adds a dated record on top.

          Which photos should I take?

The box outside with the label and tracking number readable, the inner packing, the damaged item (wide shot and close-up), and anything on the delivery slip. Carriers and retailers commonly ask for these.

Should I keep the box and the item?

Yes. Carriers often want to inspect the box, packing and item, and may close a claim if you no longer have them. Don't repair or throw anything away until the claim is settled.

Does it prove the damage happened in transit?

No. It only shows when the photos existed. It doesn't show who took them, where, or what caused the damage.

Who is responsible for a damaged parcel, the seller or the courier?

It depends on where you live. In the UK, Which? says the retailer is generally responsible until delivery to you, even if the courier caused the damage. Elsewhere, check the seller's terms and your local law.
