Your file stays on your device. During normal receipt creation, your device sends a randomized code made from its fingerprint, plus encrypted recovery data. It doesn't send the plain fingerprint or the random value that opens the code. Keep the original file and the complete receipt for checking.

Now keep it safe: three things
  1. Keep your photos and files unedited. The receipt only matches the originals. Put them in an album such as “My records”.
  2. Save this receipt to your camera roll.

Keep the receipt file too. The image is a handy copy; checking needs the file.

  3. Email it to yourself.Email it to myself

Your mail app opens a draft. Attach your receipt image and receipt file. Don’t attach your photos or documents. Timevolt does not send it or know whether it was sent.

How to keep notes that hold up

Write notes as soon as you can. Keep the original account rather than replacing it later; the venue decides what weight it gets.

      1. Write it down straight away, on paper or in the box on a step.
      2. Put the date, time and place at the top, and who you spoke to.
      3. Use their words where you can; separate what you saw from what you were told.
      4. Sign or initial a paper note, photograph it and add the photo.
      5. Never edit an old note. Add a new dated entry when something changes. A device save time is not independent time evidence or proof of event order.

Check submitted statements against the bank's copies

A borrower gave a lender bank statements with changed payee details. The bank's copies showed the changes, and the reviewer rejected blame on file-format or text-reading faults. The borrower lost the complaint, and the fraud report stood.

A claimed balance needs proof from the bank

A customer claimed a bank balance that its own statements did not show. The reviewer found added figures in the customer's copies and no proof the money came in. The complaint failed.

A statement that looks real may be changed

A lender checked a car-loan statement against the bank's copy and found changed entries. The named applicant denied applying but showed no evidence to support that denial. The reviewer left the fraud marker in place.

FRE 902(11) lets a records custodian's certification authenticate a bank's regularly kept records. Rule 902(14), added in 2017, lets data copied from a file be authenticated by a process of digital identification, and the committee note names hash values as the example.

Supports hash comparison as a way to show a copy matches an original, the same idea as a time receipt. It does not itself address the date, and a qualified person's certification and notice are still required. Rule text read via Cornell LII.

      Proves / Doesn’t prove

      Proves

A completed time receipt shows that the exact selected file existed by the independently witnessed time. You can check whether a later copy has the same bytes. It does not establish creation time, authorship, identity, event order, location or the truth of the contents.

      Doesn’t prove

It does not show the bank issued the file, that the figures are true, who downloaded it, or that a court, lender or tribunal will accept it.

A timestamp cannot show the bank issued a file, the figures are accurate or a recipient will accept it.

These are the bounds of a completed proof. The local tester does not establish any time. The chosen court, scheme or regulator decides what to accept.

Why would anyone question when I downloaded a statement?

In a dispute, the other side may argue a statement was edited or only saved after the dispute began. A receipt from before then answers the second point only.

How can a lender or court tell a PDF was edited?

Reviewers check metadata such as creator software and dates, whether the balances add up, and any bank digital signature. Metadata showing a consumer editing tool can raise questions.

Is a hash accepted as proof a copy matches the original?

US federal evidence rules recognize comparing hash values to authenticate a copy of data, through a qualified person's certification. Other venues differ.

Is emailing the PDF to myself good enough?

It gives a date, but one controlled by the mail provider and easy to dispute. A time receipt uses an independent timestamp authority and a Bitcoin anchor.

Should I save a statement every month?

Yes. A monthly habit means each file is dated near its issue date, and a run of receipts shows a steady pattern.

The file tester runs on your device. It does not issue a timestamp or take a payment.

Keep the records you already have.
