Now keep it safe: three things
  1. Keep your photos and files unedited. The receipt only matches the originals. Put them in an album such as “My records”.
  2. Save this receipt to your camera roll.

Keep the receipt file too. The image is a handy copy; checking needs the file.

  3. Email it to yourself.Email it to myself

Your mail app opens a draft. Attach your receipt image and receipt file. Don’t attach your photos or documents. Timevolt does not send it or know whether it was sent.

How to keep notes that hold up

Write notes as soon as you can. Keep the original account rather than replacing it later; the venue decides what weight it gets.

      1. Write it down straight away, on paper or in the box on a step.
      2. Put the date, time and place at the top, and who you spoke to.
      3. Use their words where you can; separate what you saw from what you were told.
      4. Sign or initial a paper note, photograph it and add the photo.
      5. Never edit an old note. Add a new dated entry when something changes. A device save time is not independent time evidence or proof of event order.

      Scope of the cited rule.

For training logged under 14 CFR 61.51(h)(2), the instructor endorsement includes the applicable certificate expiration date or recent-experience end date, along with the other required details. A separate file receipt does not provide that endorsement.

False flight logs can put licenses at risk

Flight teachers faced claims of false flight and student records, and failure to show a logbook. The appeal court kept orders taking away licenses in most cases. It sent two cases back for more review.

Federal appeal decision with two exceptions to the otherwise upheld revocation orders.

Extra false hours can still affect a license

A pilot already had enough real flight hours but added false hours to a logbook. The court kept a one year loss of the license. It said the false entries could still affect the hours decision.

Match flight logs to crew and duty sheets

A pilot used a logbook to seek a higher license. An inspector checked it against aircraft owners' crew and duty sheets and found false entries. The appeal court kept the order taking away the license.

Federal appeal decision; the supplied account does not say an earlier saved copy would have changed the result.

Record the real date of flight teaching

A flight teacher entered an August lesson but later said it happened in May. No proof backed the earlier lesson date, and the entry was later removed. The appeal court kept the loss of the pilot and teaching licenses.

      Proves / Doesn’t prove

      Proves

A completed time receipt shows that the exact selected file existed by the independently witnessed time. You can check whether a later copy has the same bytes. It does not establish creation time, authorship, identity, event order, location or the truth of the contents.

      Doesn’t prove

It does not prove the flight happened, the hours are accurate, the instructor really signed or held a valid certificate, or that the FAA, an examiner or an insurer will accept it.

This cannot establish a flight, accurate hours, instructor credentials, a genuine endorsement or acceptance.

These are the bounds of a completed proof. The local tester does not establish any time. The chosen court, scheme or regulator decides what to accept.

      Questions, answered plainly.

Your file stays on your device. During normal receipt creation, your device sends a randomized code made from its fingerprint, plus encrypted recovery data. It doesn't send the plain fingerprint or the random value that opens the code. Keep the original file and the complete receipt for checking. Privacy Policy.

What must be in a student pilot's logbook entry for a lesson?

For training logged under 14 CFR 61.51(h)(2), the instructor endorsement includes the applicable certificate expiration date or recent-experience end date, along with the other required details. A separate file receipt does not provide that endorsement.

      Context for this answer
What endorsements does a student need to fly solo?

A logbook endorsement for the specific aircraft make and model, from an instructor who trained the student in it within the 90 days before the flight, and renewed every 90 days. A pre-solo knowledge test is also required, and a separate endorsement applies to solo cross-country flights.

      Context for this answer
Does the instructor have to keep their own records?

Yes. Instructors sign each student's logbook, record each solo and test endorsement they give, and keep those records for at least 3 years.

      Context for this answer
Can I use an electronic logbook?

The rule says only that time must be documented in a manner acceptable to the FAA; it does not say paper or electronic. Apps like ForeFlight let instructors sign digitally, but ask your examiner or school what they accept.

      Context for this answer
Who can ask to see my logbook?

The FAA, an NTSB representative, or any federal, state or local law enforcement officer, on reasonable request. Students must carry the logbook on solo cross-country flights.

      Context for this answer
What happens if logbook entries are false?

Courts have upheld certificate revocations for intentionally false logbook entries, even when enough genuine hours existed without the false ones.

      Context for this answer
What does a time receipt add to a signed logbook page?

It dates the exact scan or photo of the signed page, so you can show it existed by that day. It does not replace the instructor's signature and does not prove the flight or hours are correct.
