Preserve a deposition transcript exactly as received, with its certificate, correction sheets and later versions kept separately. Keep your original source records together, then date the exact files. It does not certify testimony, prove the copy came from the reporter, establish truth, complete a court filing, meet a review deadline or guarantee admissibility.

Now keep it safe: three things
  1. Keep your photos and files unedited. The receipt only matches the originals. Put them in an album such as “My records”.
  2. Save this receipt to your camera roll.

Keep the receipt file too. The image is a handy copy; checking needs the file.

  3. Email it to yourself.Email it to myself

Your mail app opens a draft. Attach your receipt image and receipt file. Don’t attach your photos or documents. Timevolt does not send it or know whether it was sent.

How to keep notes that hold up

Write notes as soon as you can. Keep the original account rather than replacing it later; the venue decides what weight it gets.

      1. Write it down straight away, on paper or in the box on a step.
      2. Put the date, time and place at the top, and who you spoke to.
      3. Use their words where you can; separate what you saw from what you were told.
      4. Sign or initial a paper note, photograph it and add the photo.
      5. Never edit an old note. Add a new dated entry when something changes. A device save time is not independent time evidence or proof of event order.

Real cases where dated records mattered. We don’t claim a time receipt would have changed the result.

US federal — Ninth Circuit; Oregon case · 2005

Explain each suggested change to testimony

A party offered many transcript changes with weak reasons and problems over timing and a request to review. The court kept the correction sheet out. The wider appeal was mixed, with a separate claim sent back for more work.

US federal — Third Circuit; Pennsylvania case · 2010

Review time may start before your copy arrives

A supplier sent late changes to testimony and disputed whether they reached the other side. The court counted review time from notice that the transcript was ready, not when a paid copy arrived. It kept the refusal and earlier ruling.

US federal — Eleventh Circuit; Florida case · 2010

Large testimony rewrites can lead to penalties

Lawyers sent a long list of changes to a client's testimony and kept a case going without sound grounds. Most judges kept money penalties against the lawyers. One judge disagreed.

On a timely pre-completion review request, the rule allows 30 days after officer notification of availability for review and a signed change statement with reasons. Officer certification and delivery/storage are separate. A file receipt does not replace these events or rules.

      Proves / Doesn’t prove

      Proves

A completed time receipt shows that the exact selected file existed by the independently witnessed time. You can check whether a later copy has the same bytes. It does not establish creation time, authorship, identity, event order, location or the truth of the contents.

      Doesn’t prove

It does not certify testimony, prove the copy came from the reporter, establish truth, complete a court filing, meet a review deadline or guarantee admissibility.

It does not certify testimony, prove the copy came from the reporter, establish truth, complete a court filing, meet a review deadline or guarantee admissibility.

These are the bounds of a completed proof. The local tester does not establish any time. The chosen court, scheme or regulator decides what to accept.

      Questions, answered plainly.

Your file stays on your device. During normal receipt creation, your device sends a randomized code made from its fingerprint, plus encrypted recovery data. It doesn't send the plain fingerprint or the random value that opens the code. Keep the original file and the complete receipt for checking. Privacy Policy.

Does a file receipt make my transcript certified?

No. Federal Rule 30 assigns certification of the oath and accurate record to the deposition officer. A receipt dates the submitted file without supplying that certificate.

      Context for this answer
Does the federal review period start when I timestamp a copy?

No. When Rule 30(e)'s conditions apply, its 30-day period runs from the officer's notification that the transcript or recording is available. Orders, stipulations and local rules still matter.

Should I overwrite the received transcript with corrections?

This preservation workflow keeps the received copy and later material separate. Rule 30 describes a signed change statement with reasons and attachment to the certificate; this page does not advise what changes are permitted.

Is any duplicate automatically accepted in federal court?

No. Rule 1003 includes authenticity and fairness exceptions, and other requirements can still matter. A timestamp does not decide whether a particular copy may be used.

Can a dated correction sheet fix late or unsupported changes?

No. The cited Third Circuit decision examined timing, notice and reasons and upheld refusal to use the late changes. A file date is only one limited fact.
