Business plan template — Keep a dated version of the plan you choose to pitch. It does not establish that nobody had the idea earlier.

Check your regulator's own form. The printable version lists the source behind every field. CSV versions have an instruction row above the headings.

Then date your filled-in copy.

Keep the completed copy and its source records. A time receipt dates those exact bytes; it does not establish that an entry is true or accepted. Save a new copy after each version.

How to keep notes that hold up

Write notes as soon as you can. Keep the original account rather than replacing it later; the venue decides what weight it gets.

          1. Write it down straight away, on paper or in the box on a step.
          2. Put the date, time and place at the top, and who you spoke to.
          3. Use their words where you can; separate what you saw from what you were told.
          4. Sign or initial a paper note, photograph it and add the photo.
          5. Never edit an old note. Add a new dated entry when something changes. A device save time is not independent time evidence or proof of event order.

Keep the outline you send with an idea

A writer said producers used an idea shared by phone and in a written outline. They disputed what was shared and whether payment was understood. The court reopened the writer's case without deciding who should win.

Record what you hand over at a pitch

An inventor said a toy firm received his sample, but its staff gave conflicting accounts. His idea claims reopened because the lower court used the wrong test for whether the idea was new. The firm's claims against the inventor stayed closed.

Keep the idea exactly as you submitted it

A person sought payment for a new concept shared in trust and later used. The jury mostly sided with the person. The judge kept most of that result but removed payment for extensions of the product line.

Keep plans separate from a deal in trust

Two workers used facts from talks to buy their employer when making a plan for a rival. A jury found for the employer over secret business facts and harm to its deals. The appeal court kept some rulings, changed others and sent the case back.

          Proves / Doesn’t prove

          Proves

A completed time receipt shows that the exact selected file existed by the independently witnessed time. You can check whether a later copy has the same bytes. It does not establish creation time, authorship, identity, event order, location or the truth of the contents.

          Doesn’t prove

It does not prove you wrote or invented the idea, that it is new, that anyone saw or copied it, that it is protected, or who would win a dispute.

This cannot establish invention, novelty, ownership, confidentiality, access or protection of an idea.

These are the bounds of a completed proof. The local tester does not establish any time. The chosen court, scheme or regulator decides what to accept.

          Questions, answered plainly.

Your file stays on your device. During normal receipt creation, your device sends a randomized code made from its fingerprint, plus encrypted recovery data. It doesn't send the plain fingerprint or the random value that opens the code. Keep the original file and the complete receipt for checking. Privacy Policy.

Can I protect a business idea?

An idea by itself generally is not protected. Courts look for something concrete, such as a written plan, and protection comes from other tools such as confidentiality agreements, copyright in the written plan, trade secret practice, or patents and trademarks once the idea is a product. A time receipt only shows when a file existed.

          Context for this answer
Is this the same as copyright or a patent?

No. It gives you no rights. It is a dated record that these exact files existed by a date, which can be useful alongside those tools.

          Context for this answer
Does a time receipt replace an NDA?

No. An NDA controls what the other side may do with what you tell them. A time receipt dates your file. Use both when you pitch.

Why does it matter exactly what I submitted?

In published idea-submission disputes, a central question was what was disclosed and in what concrete form, and who can show it. A dated copy fixes the content as of a date.

Will a court accept a hash of my file?

US federal rules let data copied from a file be authenticated by hash comparison when properly certified. Whether it helps your case, and what weight it has, is for the court. The receipt does not prove authorship or that anyone copied you.

Do I need a new receipt when I change my plan?

Yes. Any change, even one character, changes the fingerprint. Date each version before each pitch or major edit.

How is this different from i-DEPOT or e-Soleau?

Those are official national deposit schemes with fees and storage periods, available through their offices. A time receipt is not an official deposit; it is an independent timestamp plus Bitcoin anchor, with files staying on your device.
